About the position

The Senior Project Manager for HDR will oversee project management and technical services in the Freight Rail market sector in Northern California. This role involves managing and delivering projects for freight rail and public agency clients, requiring strong management skills and collaboration with various stakeholders. The position emphasizes the importance of client relationships and project delivery processes, making it essential for the candidate to have extensive experience in the railroad engineering industry.

Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for all aspects of client and design-team management of Class I railroad, freight, short line, commuter, and rail transit projects.
  • Plan, direct, supervise, and monitor all aspects of multidisciplinary projects with a high degree of technical complexity.
  • Manage the assembly of design, plans, specifications, construction estimate packages, and other deliverables.
  • Produce and coordinate several projects concurrently.
  • Serve as Project Manager on small, medium, and large transportation projects.
  • Act as a point of contact between the client and HDR to enhance client relationships.
  • Participate in proposal development and marketing activities as a seller-doer pursuit champion or support role.
  • Implement QA/QC procedures and perform detailed QC reviews of railway projects.
  • Coordinate staffing and workload through the entire project development to complete deliverables on schedule.
  • Supervise project staff, mentor less-experienced Project Managers, and execute training for personnel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • 10 years of related experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of project management experience.
  • 15+ years of experience within the railroad engineering industry.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office software, engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation), estimating and scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P3), and project management software (e.g., Prolog).
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments and travel for client meetings, site visits, and construction management.

Nice-to-haves

  • California project experience and knowledge.
  • Construction inspection or construction management experience.
  • Knowledge of Class I railroad public projects and engineering requirements.
