About the position

These positions are located in Region II, Division of Operating Reactor Safety. The positions are located in branches to be determined. The supervisor is to be determined. The positions are in the Bargaining Unit with the National Treasury Employees Union, Chapter 208. These positions require approximately 20% travel. These positions ARE subject to Confidential Financial Disclosure reporting requirements. These positions ARE subject to security ownership restriction reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a region-based senior inspector and Senior Project Engineer.
  • Assist the Branch Chief in managing the inspection program.
  • Lead, plan, conduct, report, and integrate findings associated with inspections of light-water reactors.
  • Perform a wide variety of lead duties associated with inspection of the engineering, corrective actions, and operations of power reactors.
  • Independently plan and determine the scope of inspections to be performed.
  • Perform routine and complex inspections, allegation reviews, event response inspections, or area of emphasis inspections of reactor facilities.
  • Prepare and coordinate a report of inspection findings.
  • Integrate inspection findings into overall licensee assessment.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties in support of the region-based inspection program, including enforcement and performance assessment.

Requirements

  • Must be able to meet/maintain security & suitability requirements.
  • Must possess a bachelor's or higher degree in professional engineering or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Full qualification as an NRC inspector under Inspection Manual Chapter 1245 is required.
  • At least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in the occupational series or in another series performing similar duties.

Nice-to-haves

  • Current Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration in a relevant discipline.
  • Successful completion of the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) written examination.
  • Experience in nuclear engineering or other engineering disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, chemical, or structural.
