About The Position

This role is for a Senior Product Researcher in the Books Studio Research team. The researcher will be responsible for owning the research for software experiences on Kindle eReader and Scribe devices, focusing on how millions of people read, write, and take notes. The findings from this role will directly shape future product development. The position involves partnering with Data Science and BI teams to connect behavioral findings to journey analytics and product metrics, bringing both qualitative (ethnography, usability science) and quantitative (experimental design, statistical analysis) expertise. The role also involves influencing product strategy at the senior leadership level and shaping the future of the research practice.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on work with: field research, ethnography, lab-based user testing, remote testing, paper prototype testing, iterative prototype testing, concept testing, and survey design experience
  • Experience with behavioral data collection, quantitative data analysis, and statistics
  • Experience with all aspects of research (study design, recruiting, moderation, analysis, reporting)
  • Bachelor's degree in HCDE, Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, or a related field
  • Experience with the full range of research methods: qualitative and quantitative, attitudinal and behavioral, with deep expertise in one or more areas
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis
  • Experience with task-based usability testing using quantitative performance metrics (task completion rates, time-on-task, error rates, or equivalent measures)
  • Experience partnering with Data Science, Business Intelligence, or analytics teams to connect behavioral research findings to quantitative business metrics

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Human Factors, HCDE, Cognitive Psychology or equivalent
  • Experience with UX Research in non-US markets
  • Experience building measures and metrics, and developing reporting solutions
  • Familiarity with AI-augmented research tools and workflows for synthesis, pattern recognition, and data analysis, including critical evaluation of AI-generated research outputs against methodological standards
  • Applied research experience in consumer technology, digital reading, digital writing, or content consumption domains
  • Experience contributing to research infrastructure: repositories, synthesis frameworks, reusable measurement instruments, or scalable research programs

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute integrated research programs for Kindle eReader and Scribe consumer software experiences that connect qualitative behavioral research (contextual inquiry, usability testing, ethnographic methods) with quantitative measurement (experimental design, statistical analysis, survey validation) within single investigations.
  • Partner with Data Science and Business Intelligence teams to connect behavioral research findings to journey analytics, experimentation frameworks, and product metrics. Identify where qualitative insights should inform quantitative measurement and where data patterns require deeper behavioral investigation.
  • Communicate research findings through compelling narratives that connect customer behavior to business outcomes. Influence product strategy at senior leadership levels by translating complex behavioral data into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Leverage AI tools for research synthesis and pattern recognition while maintaining critical evaluation of outputs against methodological standards.
  • Partner cross-studio where teams need research that connects behavioral observation to quantitative measurement across Books and Kindle lines of business.
