About The Position

Under general supervision, this role is responsible for performing police support services. Key duties include entering police reports, updating NCIC/TCIC files for stolen or recovered property, performing building and grounds security, and providing customer service. The position operates primarily in an office environment and may involve supervision of assigned staff. The work schedule is shift-work, typically from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Thursday through Monday, with potential for varied hours including mid-day and overnight shifts, and different crew rest days. The Police Department operates 24/7, including holidays.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
  • Two (2) years of data processing or other computer-related experience.
  • Applicants must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.
  • Valid Texas Crime Information Center and National Crime Information Center (TCIC/NCIC) Certification required within one (1) year of employment.
  • Ability to handle all the physical requirements of the job.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional experience in the law enforcement field or as a Police Services Agent is highly desirable.
  • Computer Skills.
  • Customer Service experience.
  • Ability to learn the Penal Code and Code of Criminal Procedures.
  • Ability to learn Police Department rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to learn substation operations including security and alarm procedures.
  • Ability to learn pertinent Federal, State, and local laws and ordinances.

Responsibilities

  • Enters reports to update the uniform crime reporting system and State and Federal records system.
  • Updates National Criminal Investigation Center and Texas Criminal Investigation Center (NCIC/TCIC) files for recovered or stolen property.
  • Performs building and grounds security, including testing of all station alarm systems.
  • Provides customer service, such as offering basic information and necessary police forms to citizens.
  • Assists in the research of information on Police reports when requested by field officers.
  • Takes photographs of victims of domestic violence and sorts/downloads them on a computer.
  • Sorts and distributes mail, incoming Police reports, faxes, and subpoenas.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
