About the position

The Senior Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. This role involves operating pharmacy systems, processing prescriptions, and providing exceptional customer service. The technician also coaches other pharmacy staff and supports inventory management and clinical services, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the pharmacy department.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
  • Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Coach pharmacy technicians and cashiers in the operation of pharmacy systems and cash registers.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Review and comply with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
  • Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying correctness, and checking for interactions.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to company policies regarding pharmacy errors.
  • Register all related sales on assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Process manual claims for third party program prescription services in a timely manner.
  • Lead Pharmacy Department inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
  • Assist in administering clinical services and coordinating with healthcare providers.
  • Maintain the Pharmacy Department in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • PTCB certification (except in Puerto Rico).
  • One year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital setting.
  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Basic math skills (counting, measuring, and weighing medications).
  • Basic level PC skills (e.g., using a mouse, starting and closing programs).
  • Knowledge of store inventory control.
