About the position

The Senior Network Engineer will serve as a Router Team Operator for the 26th NOS, focusing on the defense of the Air Force Network (AFNet) through various network operations. This role involves overseeing intrusion detection and prevention, managing WAN circuits, providing technical support, and ensuring service continuity by troubleshooting network issues. The engineer will also document processes, participate in technology evaluations, and adapt to various assignments as directed by management.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee intrusion detection, intrusion prevention, boundary protection, and vulnerability assessment operations.
  • Investigate and rectify malfunctions in network hardware and systems to ensure service continuity.
  • Monitor and manage all WAN circuits for optimal performance.
  • Respond to remote assistance requests from colleagues and service partners.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive network support and implementation documentation for the Helpdesk.
  • Manage assigned tasks and projects independently, ensuring timely completion.
  • Provide backup support to team members as needed.
  • Undertake additional assignments or duties as directed by management.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network issues across multiple devices including routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Implement disaster recovery procedures.
  • Interpret, implement, and assess DISA STIGs.
  • Participate in the implementation of agreed-upon solutions and strategies.
  • Troubleshoot technology issues using various resources.
  • Generate innovative approaches and solutions to recurring tasks or problems.
  • Document technical problems, resolutions, and processes for assigned tasks and projects.
  • Participate in testing and evaluation of new technologies.

Requirements

  • Expert level experience in network engineering.
  • Proficiency with Cisco routers, BGP, OSPF, and CCNP certification.
  • IAT II (Security +) certification required.
  • At least one of the CE/OS DCWF requirements: CCNP Routing and Switching, CCNP ENARSI, CCNP ENSDWI, or CCNP ENSLD.
