About the position

The Senior Manager of Domestic Tax Reporting at Amgen is responsible for overseeing federal income tax compliance and the provision process. This role involves managing the company's federal income tax return and quarterly estimated payments, coordinating with various business areas, and ensuring accurate reporting and compliance with tax regulations. The position also includes leading a team of tax professionals and driving process improvements within the tax function.

Responsibilities

  • Manage federal income tax compliance and quarterly estimated payments with a third-party service provider, coordinating with the Tax Director.
  • Own US Country-by-Country Report (CBCR) filing, including data gathering, regional coordination, and reporting to Senior Tax and Accounting Leadership.
  • Maintain and update the global organizational chart and entity information, collaborating with tax planning, regional tax, legal, and accounting teams.
  • Ensure accuracy and documentation of domestic income tax provision items, including acquisitions/divestitures, GAAP/Non-GAAP adjustments, Balance Sheet/Cash Flow explanations, Provision to Return Analysis, Valuation Analysis, Uncertain Tax Positions, and other quarterly provision calculations.
  • Act as a liaison and business partner within the tax department and with other departments (Finance, Accounting, and Treasury) to ensure timely and thoughtful communication and collaboration on potential tax impacts.
  • Assist the Tax Director in developing domestic cash tax forecasts and communicating with Tax Executive Leadership and Treasury.
  • Identify and lead process improvement initiatives related to tax compliance and provision.
  • Lead and mentor a team of tax professionals, providing guidance, training, and development opportunities.
  • Complete other special projects as needed.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree and 2 years of tax experience.
  • Master's degree and 4 years of tax experience.
  • Bachelor's degree and 6 years of tax experience.
  • Associate's degree and 10 years of tax experience.
  • High school diploma / GED and 12 years of tax experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Experience with a strong emphasis on tax accounting issues for large multinational publicly traded company and a minimum of 4 years working with ASC 740
  • Strong US GAAP background, including tax accounting, (ASC 740), stock-based compensation (ASC 718), and business combinations (ASC 805)
  • Experience with Non-GAAP reporting preferred
  • Experience with US federal and state and international taxation and compliance
  • Experience with Country-By-Country Reporting and OECD Pillar two Transitional Country-by-Country reporting safe harbor rules
  • Proficient in OneSource Tax Provision
  • Experience with pharmaceutical, biotech or high-tech industry
  • Excellent research skills, including a focus on documentation
  • Ability to work in cross-functional team environment across multiple senior levels of management
  • Strong written, verbal communication, presentation and project management skills
  • Ability to understand the cross-functional impact across the tax function and functions external to tax.
