About the position

The Senior Manager, Applied Scientist in Supply Chain Optimization Technologies at Amazon is responsible for leading the IPC Simulation team, which plays a critical role in predicting inventory flows and optimizing supply chain operations. This position involves driving research innovation, developing new methodologies for experimentation and prediction, and collaborating with various teams to enhance decision-making processes. The role requires a strong technical background in Operations Research or Machine Learning and the ability to communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with senior tech leaders to define the long-term architecture of decision optimization and prediction systems.
  • Develop long-term strategic solutions that have a business impact beyond the organization.
  • Define and deliver the science vision for IPC Simulation.
  • Ensure senior leaders are informed about important trends, tools, and technologies.
  • Approach large ambiguous problems and turn high-level business requirements into mathematical models.
  • Contribute to software development for production systems.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Operations Research, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in solving complicated problems in Operations Management or similar disciplines.
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in building machine learning or optimization models in a business environment.
  • Proven track record in leading, mentoring, and growing teams of scientists.

Nice-to-haves

  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in using models to solve complex real-world business problems.
  • Experience leading a team of scientists across disciplines including RS, AS, DS.
  • Experience in supply chains, transportation, simulation, and logistics models.
  • Significant peer-reviewed scientific contributions in premier journals and conferences.
  • Programming experience using at least one modern programming language such as Python, Java, or C++.
  • Proficiency in development, validation, and implementation of optimization or machine learning models for large-scale applications.
  • Superior verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
