About the position

The Senior Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor - Tribal HUD-VASH Case Manager is responsible for providing intensive case management services to chronically homeless Veterans and their families, particularly focusing on tribal member Veterans. This role involves coordinating psychosocial services, developing treatment plans, and advocating for Veterans and their families to ensure comprehensive service delivery. The position requires advanced independent practice skills and knowledge of tribal customs, as well as the ability to work in a rural and resource-scarce environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Housing and Urban Development-VA Supported Housing (HUD-VASH) Tribal Case Manager for local tribes.
  • Provide case management services for Veterans receiving housing through tribal housing vouchers.
  • Coordinate care for family members of housed Veterans, involving specialized knowledge in family intervention.
  • Develop treatment plans in collaboration with Veterans, their families, and possibly tribal elders.
  • Provide intensive case management services focusing on readjustment, housing, mental health issues, and psychosocial needs.
  • Advocate for enrolled Tribal Veterans and their families to ensure comprehensive service delivery.
  • Link and refer Veterans and families to the VA Medical Center, VA Regional Offices, and/or Tribal/community agencies.
  • Operate and drive a government vehicle to provide community services.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Hold a master's or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or a related field from an accredited program.
  • Possess a full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor.
  • At least one year of progressively complex LPMHC experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level.
  • Five years of post-licensed experience demonstrating advanced practice skills and judgment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of programs and services available in tribal communities throughout the Western South Dakota Region.
  • Experience in substance abuse assessment and treatment.
