About the position

The Senior Immigration Specialist at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) plays a crucial role in providing immigration-related assistance, resources, and advice to the UAMS community. This position focuses on immigration case management, regulatory compliance, and educational outreach to various campus departments regarding immigration processes.

Responsibilities

  • Manage immigration cases including drafting, reviewing, and submitting forms for employer-sponsored visa processes such as H-1B, J-1 Scholar, and permanent residence.
  • Serve as Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for J-1 Scholars and Training Program Liaison (TPL) for J-1 Alien Physician programs, maintaining relevant records in systems like SEVIS.
  • Research and interpret complex immigration issues and provide guidance to departments and employees.
  • Educate and advise hiring departments and employees on immigration options through consultations, presentations, and online training.
  • Maintain immigration-related webpages and update documents with accurate information.
  • Ensure compliance with USCIS regulations and manage work authorization expirations.
  • Audit employee data in tracking systems and assist with onboarding of foreign national new hires.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 4 years of immigration advising or related experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of immigration laws and procedures, including F-1, J-1, H-1B, and permanent residence cases.
  • Strong customer service skills with effective communication abilities, both written and verbal.
  • Detail-oriented with superior writing, research, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree.
  • Experience with filing H-1B petitions and advising J-1 scholars.
  • Knowledge of permanent residence regulations and processes.
  • Experience with Workday, SEVIS, and immigration case management systems.
  • Experience in a higher education setting.
