About The Position

Facilities Management's Health System Physical Plant at the University of Virginia is seeking an experienced Senior HVAC Mechanic who provides expertise in the HVAC field. The incumbent will inspect, provide skilled repair, maintenance, and installation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. The Senior HVAC Mechanic establishes schedules for preventive maintenance of equipment and provides technical guidance and trains lower-level mechanics and/or apprentices. This role handles complex assignments and troubleshooting and serves as a senior worker in teams.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of seven years of HVAC experience is required.
  • Journeyman or higher HVAC license required.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Selected candidate will need to complete the required background checks prior to the start date of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a hospital or clinical environment experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with HVAC controls and building automation systems a plus.
  • Chiller and boiler equipment experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Determine priorities for emergency service calls to maintain HVAC service to critical areas and to avoid the destruction of property.
  • Perform HVAC repairs and preventative maintenance on a variety of refrigeration equipment.
  • Foster a safe work environment by instructing and monitoring compliance of OSHA, BOCA, federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Inform customers of job status, reasons for and duration of expected delays, as well as refer customers to the supervisor when appropriate.
  • Provide technical guidance and instruction and inspect completed work.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs of jobs and time tickets, as well as purchase orders for parts.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
