About the position

The Senior Financial Accountant performs and coordinates detail-oriented accounting duties related to the efficient and accurate maintenance and processing of accounting transactions. This position prepares financial analysis, performs account reconciliations, maintains fixed asset accounts, and manages cost accounting. The role requires an experienced candidate who can assist management by performing research projects and provide a high degree of support to staff in the accounting department.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating and entering transactions during monthly and quarterly close processes.
  • Prepares and records asset, liability, revenue and expenses entries by compiling and analyzing account information and resolving discrepancies.
  • Completes production job costing including allocating costs to inventory, calculating overhead and labor rates and closing production jobs.
  • Reviews blend costs and case costs for reasonableness.
  • Manages property, plant and equipment including tracking capital projects from approval/inception, construction in progress, capitalization of assets, establishing depreciation rules and disposing of assets due to sale or obsolescence.
  • Reconciles depreciation schedule to physical assets and track locations.
  • Reconciles barrel purchases between general ledger and perpetual inventory software.
  • Allocates earned barrel discounts to specific barrel purchases.
  • Obtains new vendor documentation and sets up vendor card in accounting software.
  • Creates monthly budget reports, reviews for completeness and accuracy and provides to departments.
  • Works with all departments to prepare capital asset budgets.
  • Processes and posts monthly lab write-offs.
  • Reviews customer billbacks and then posting credit memos.
  • Maintains related parties QuickBooks general ledgers.
  • Performs ad hoc special projects as requested by management.
  • Provides ERP support for other departments.
  • Protects organization's values by keeping information confidential.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • CPA preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting
  • Work experience at a wine company or in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience creating budget formats and preparing budget reports.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state and local tax regulations
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting
  • Experience with Microsoft Business Central or other Accounting ERP software a plus
  • Solid computer skills, particularly Excel
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, flexible and able to deal with frequent and changing priorities
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and consistently meet all deadlines
  • Curious and continuously learn to grow capabilities
  • Able to make suggestions on how to improve existing processes and internal controls
  • Self-starter able to review their own work when necessary
