About The Position

The Head of FP&A is the enterprise financial leader responsible for planning, forecasting, performance management, executive reporting, and strategic insight for a ~$10B global, publicly traded Medical Technology business. This role is located in New Brunswick, NJ and/or Pennsylvania, and/or Massachusetts. Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopaedics business to establish a standalone orthopaedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 18 to 24 months, subject to legal requirements, including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as may be required, regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and approvals. Should you accept this position, it is anticipated that, following conclusion of the transaction, you would be an employee of DePuy Synthes and your employment would be governed by DePuy Synthes employment processes, programs, policies, and benefit plans. In that case, details of any planned changes would be provided to you by DePuy Synthes at an appropriate time and subject to any necessary consultation processes. The position is a strategic and operational thought partner for executive leadership, Business Unit Presidents, Commercial, R&D, Operations, and Investor Relations to ensure financial rigor, transparency, and credibility with external stakeholders. The Head of FP&A is also responsible for the efficient delivery of function services. This includes the formulation and enforcement of standard processes & policies, development & maintenance of the necessary team skill levels, and continuous improvement to optimize the FP&A operating model.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of progressive finance experience, including senior FP&A leadership roles.
  • Significant experience in Life Sciences or Manufacturing sectors (Medtech experience is a plus).
  • Proven experience operating within a public company environment, supporting earnings guidance and external reporting cadence.
  • Leadership experience at scale (multi‑billion‑dollar revenue, global operations).
  • Deep understanding of Life Sciences or Manufacturing economics: capital vs. consumables, service revenue, product development cycles, regulatory pathways, and reimbursement.
  • Expertise in forecasting, financial modeling, and performance management in complex, matrixed organizations.
  • Strong executive communication skills with the ability to translate complexity into clear, actionable insights.
  • Strategic, commercially oriented, and highly analytical.
  • Comfortable influencing senior leaders and operating under market scrutiny.
  • Track record of building high‑performing teams and driving finance transformation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field required
  • MBA, CPA, or CFA strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the CFO and Executive Leadership Team on strategy, financial outlook, and value creation.
  • Lead enterprise‑wide annual operating plan, rolling forecasts, and long‑range plans aligned with public company guidance and capital market expectations.
  • Drive scenario planning and sensitivity analysis around market growth, pricing pressure, FX, supply chain disruptions, and regulatory timelines.
  • Partner with Controllership and Business Units to frame, analyze, and present global financial results to senior leadership
  • Prepare, publish and deliver Board & Executive reporting packages
  • Own enterprise FP&A processes supporting earnings guidance, monthly & quarterly results, and variance analysis.
  • Partner with Investor Relations to ensure consistency between internal forecasts, external guidance, and earnings narratives.
  • Ensure forecasting accuracy, controllership discipline, and SOX‑compliant planning processes.
  • Support capital allocation decisions including M&A evaluation, divestitures, capital expenditures, and restructuring initiatives.
  • Provide financial diligence, synergy modeling, and post‑merger integration support.
  • Monitor ROIC, free cash flow conversion, and long‑term value drivers.
  • Partner with R&D and the Business units on investment prioritization, innovation spend, and return on invested capital.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain on cost management, capacity planning, and gross margin improvement.
  • Drive visibility into standard cost, yield, utilization, inventory, and working capital performance.
  • Support footprint optimization and productivity initiatives.
  • Build, develop, and retain a high‑performing global FP&A organization.
  • Drive process standardization, automation, and adoption of advanced analytics (driver‑based planning, predictive forecasting)
  • Setting & enforcing Corporate FP&A policies, governance and calendars
  • Foster a business‑partner mindset while maintaining financial discipline and compliance.
