About the position

The Senior Design Engineer at IDEX Health & Science is responsible for the development and optimization of fluidics product solutions specifically for the Biotech and In Vitro Diagnostics sectors. This role involves understanding customer application challenges, defining product requirements, and creating specifications to meet those needs. The engineer will lead new product development projects, ensuring that designs meet precision performance standards and are ready for manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize fluidics product solutions for Biotech and In Vitro Diagnostics.
  • Understand customer application challenges and define product requirements.
  • Create specifications and develop concepts to meet customer needs.
  • Lead and manage new product development projects using established procedures and project management tools.
  • Interface with external customers and suppliers to gather requirements and feedback.
  • Analyze designs for precision performance and ensure appropriate tolerances.
  • Review and ensure accuracy of release to manufacturing documentation.
  • Support investigation and problem-solving of quality issues.
  • Attend trade shows and assist in product demonstrations.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar degree.
  • Proven ability to design precision mechanical components and assemblies.
  • At least three years of experience interfacing with external customers and suppliers.
  • Highly proficient in GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
  • Adept at using CAD software (SolidWorks) to create detailed models and drawings.
  • Experience applying mathematical and computational analysis to solve engineering problems.
  • Proficiency in business software tools (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of various manufacturing processes including precision machining, injection molding, or extrusion.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) techniques.
  • Experience with fluid control and electro-mechanical devices (solenoid/rotary valves, pumps, sensors).
