Senior Data Engineer (remote)

This is a fully remote position at Ad Hoc, a digital services company that focuses on helping the federal government improve its services. They use modern, agile methods to design and engineer government systems, with a particular emphasis on connecting Veterans with services and providing affordable healthcare. The selected candidate for this role will be responsible for driving improvements in data engineering processes and practices, as well as building systems to collect and manage raw data for analysis. They will also work closely with the Veterans Affairs business unit to transform the VA into a modern digital services organization.

• Deliver large features and foundational improvements with minimal guidance and support
• Actively participate in conversations and planning sessions with partners and key stakeholders
• Define standards for style, maintenance, and best practices for data platforms and development
• Propose improvements to scale, performance, and capabilities for data platforms
• Effectively communicate on existing systems, design decisions, past performance, and a major history of the projects that they’ve been part of for bid-writing, tech demos, and other potentially client-facing communications
• Participate in technical depth interviews with new candidates
• Actively mentor, coach, and assist more junior engineers in the development of their skills

• Degree in Bachelor's in Business Administration, Business Management, Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Resource Management, Industrial Engineering, or related fields
• 5 years of professional experience
• Demonstrates expert-level knowledge in multiple data ingestion systems, cloud database services, and visualization software
• Mastery of key Data concepts including constructing databases, processing big data, improving data accuracy, etc.
• 8+ years of relevant experience (preferred)
