About the position

The Senior Counsel is responsible for providing global legal support across the organization, including quickly and effectively identifying complex legal issues raised by SCIEX business partners, researching new legal issues, and providing advice in a manner that integrates legal risk management with SCIEX's objectives. This position reports to the VP General Counsel and is part of the SCIEX Legal & Compliance Department located in Marlborough, Massachusetts and will be an on-site role. In this role, you will have the opportunity to draft and negotiate various general and sophisticated commercial agreements, advise on and manage all other commercial legal matters, manage litigation and government investigations, actively contribute to the creation and implementation of Legal Department processes and policies, represent the Legal function in various leadership meetings, and manage a team of at least one junior legal team member.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and negotiate various general and sophisticated commercial agreements with a concentration in the Americas for commercial sales agreements.
  • Advise on and manage all other commercial legal matters that may arise in various areas of law, such as antitrust, labor & employment, bankruptcy, clinical and data privacy matters.
  • Manage litigation and government investigations with the support of local/external counsel.
  • Actively contribute to the creation and implementation of Legal Department processes and policies.
  • Represent the Legal function in various leadership meetings and actively contribute to the development and good business conduct of SCIEX Americas commercial business.
  • Manage a team of at least one junior legal team member.

Requirements

  • At least 7+ years of practice as a US licensed attorney within a nationally recognized law firm and in-house, preferably within the life sciences industry.
  • Excellent academic credentials and a qualified lawyer (Bar member) in the US.
  • Experience with managing other lawyers and/or paralegals.
  • Excellent leadership qualities, including strategic thinking capability, attention to mentoring and development of other team members, and care and thoughtfulness about team building.
  • Substantial deal and negotiation experience with a track record of leadership in executed transactions (e.g., partnership, collaboration, licensing, M&A, research agreements).
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, the ability to work with others, and a desire to learn.
  • Be a team player with a 'can do' attitude who can work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects.
  • Be energetic, outgoing, self-motivated and constructive in approach, flexible and adaptable to work in a complex, global environment cross-functionally and able to build relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in Data Privacy Regulations.
  • Previous experience in Software Licensing.
