About The Position

HITACHI RAIL is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Senior Component Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. This position is based in Pittsburgh, PA. The Senior Component Engineer is responsible for standardizing, selecting, validating, and managing components, ensuring they meet quality, cost, regulatory, and availability requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline with minimum 10 years of relevant experience or a 2-year degree in Electronics with minimum 15 years of relevant experience or equivalent education with minimum 15 years of relevant experience
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical, electronics, electromechanical and mechanical parts, including component selection, evaluation, testing, and material specification
  • Demonstrated understanding of form, fit, function equivalency for multiple-source components and application acceptability
  • Great attention to detail as well as strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with 2D/3D CAD Modeling Tools, as well as Product Lifecycle Management Systems

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and unify standardized component requirements and material specifications across global products and projects to ensure consistency and quality
  • Proactively mitigate supply chain risks by monitoring obsolescence, shortages, and identifying suitable alternatives
  • Analyze technical specifications, interpret test results, select and qualify components by component and/or product technical specifications
  • Provide technical guidance and support to supply chain, project and manufacturing teams
  • Provide technical expertise by identifying, assessing, and negotiating with suppliers to ensure consistency and quality
  • Manage documentation, including datasheets, end-of-life notices, and change histories
  • Ensure components meet applicable internal and external regulations and quality standards
  • Investigate component issues, perform failure analysis, and establish corrective actions
  • Work closely with design engineers to select parts that meet performance requirements, while considering availability, cost and compliance, helping prevent delays, and costly redesign
  • Provide mentorship to other Component Engineers
  • Adhere to safety and quality guidelines and company policies
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, circuit diagrams, and schematics
  • Adhere to core values of safety and integrity, taking responsibility for actions and compliance with internal and external regulatory requirements
  • Prepare detailed engineering reports and documentation
  • Manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines
  • Understand team metrics, factors affecting and ideas to improve
  • Understand processes and provide ideas for improvement
  • Quickly learn and adapt to new engineering design tools and technologies
  • Work both independently with minimal supervision and as a collaborative team member across various cultures and geographies
  • Lift or lower items weighing < 24lbs (10.9kg) and Push or Pull efforts < 42lbs (19kg)
