About the position

Coastal1 Credit Union is a leading provider of financial services, committed to delivering exceptional member experiences seeking a Senior Commercial Credit Analyst to join our team. The Senior Commercial Credit Analyst, under the direction of the VP - Commercial Banking Operating Officer ('CBOO'), or designee, analyzes the financial condition of enterprises and evaluates the quality and sufficiency of the sources of repayment, collateral and the appropriateness of business plans and credit structures for various extensions of credit, including new to Coastal1, renewals or modifications. Prepares loan presentations in Credit Quest's Credit Manager and Financial Analyzer, for approval by the Loan Officer, Commercial Banking Operating Officer, Commercial Banking Manager, Chief Lending Officer, Loan Committee or the Board of Directors, as necessary, providing adequate details of the credit structure, management, collateral evaluation, background of the business and industry, assessment and adequacy of proposed transaction structure, risk ratings and creditworthiness. This role requires ON SITE availability in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

Responsibilities

  • Provides an independent credit quality assessment of the larger, more complex existing and prospective Commercial Banking Members' credit structures by conducting comprehensive financial analyses.
  • Examines, analyzes, and evaluates a variety of documents and business structures, and then utilizes independent judgment to determine the degree of proposed transaction risk when compared to Coastal1's Credit policy.
  • Extrapolates data from financial statements, tax returns, credit agencies, online searches, and all other available resources, to analyze cash flows and project economics.
  • Prepares detailed property descriptions and market analysis, tenancy analysis, property valuations, construction budget analysis with sources and uses, guarantor/sponsor personal financial statements and cash flows, and real estate holdings analysis.
  • Spreads financial statements and tax returns and performs industry peer analysis in Credit Quest's Financial Analyzer.
  • Engages with Member Borrowers, their advisors, and the relevant Coastal1 officers or stakeholders as needed during the credit process.
  • Assists Commercial Loan Officers with construction project site visits, inspections, Member visits and meetings, as well as with structuring commercial loans.
  • Prepares annual relationship reviews on required (or, assigned) Commercial Banking largest loan relationships including a complete analysis of annual financial statements and tax returns.
  • Reviews compliance with loan agreements of existing Members and reports exceptions to the CBOO or Commercial Banking Manager.
  • Works closely with Loan Officers in transaction structuring, or project analysis and feasibility.
  • Provides ongoing monitoring support for existing extensions of credit through annual relationship reviews, renewals of existing credit facilities, and the testing of covenant compliance.
  • Responds to a variety of inquiries and confirmations about Commercial Banking Members.
  • Ensures compliance with Coastal1's Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering Policy and related procedures, Member Identification Program and Office of Foreign Assets Control screening and record keeping requirements.
  • Performs other duties assigned, and all duties in accordance with Coastal1 policies, procedures and the applicable regulatory compliance guidelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in a business-related field, or equivalent work experience is required.
  • Formal commercial credit training is preferred.
  • Seven (7) or more years of commercial credit analysis experience.
  • Working knowledge of Credit Quest's Credit Manager and Financial Analyzer is desirable.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Proven ability to gather and analyze data and information, draw logical conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Proven problem-solving ability.
  • Strong organizational, time management and prioritization skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with strong presentation skills.
  • Team player able to work effectively in a team fostered, multi-tasking environment.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
  • Ability to maintain a positive and upbeat Credit Union image.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information securely.

Nice-to-haves

  • Additional education, certifications, or other distinctions are a plus.
  • Familiarity with Fiserv DNA is a plus.
  • Bi-lingual communication skills are advantageous, but not required.
