About the position

As a Sr. Civil/Environmental Design Engineer at Montrose, you will be part of a global environmental services provider dedicated to environmental planning, permitting, and sustainability solutions. This role is based in Nashville, TN, and involves leading multiple projects, supervising engineering professionals, and ensuring the application of firm standards. You will be responsible for project management, client consultations, and overseeing technical staff, while also maintaining project budgets and timelines. Your work will include preparing permit documents, construction plans, and specifications for various environmental facilities and actions.

Responsibilities

  • Plan multiple projects simultaneously and act as the senior technical lead.
  • Supervise engineering professionals, staff level engineers, technicians, and CAD professionals.
  • Estimate personnel needs, assign work, and ensure completion dates are met.
  • Coordinate day-to-day operations of technical staff assigned to projects.
  • Oversee development of project document deliverable outlines and layouts.
  • Consult with clients to prepare plans, reports, and assessments.
  • Manage project budgets and hours effectively.
  • Act as a client manager to understand customer needs.
  • Communicate potential issues to leadership.
  • Oversee project setup and authorization paperwork.
  • Manage project financial duties including invoicing and contract compliance.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise safe work practices.
  • Participate in continuous improvement programs.
  • Keep up-to-date with industry trends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university; advanced degree preferred.
  • 5-10 years of related experience.
  • Possess a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of computer-aided software (Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, etc.).
  • Ability to complete and maintain HAZWOPER certification.
  • Proven leadership skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Strong organizational and management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in preparing Solid Waste Management Facility permit documents.
  • Experience with construction quality assurance activities.
  • Familiarity with environmental site assessments.
