About The Position

The Senior Business Analyst is an advanced individual contributor who supports operational and financial performance across one or more designated departments within the healthcare system. This role leads complex financial and operational analyses, develops advanced reporting tools and dashboards, and drives strategic planning and process improvement initiatives. The Senior Business Analyst may support a variety of operational areas including sponsored projects, clinical trials, outpatient clinics, programs, and other administrative or clinical units. Reporting to a department director or senior manager, this role collaborates closely with finance, clinical operations, research administration, and executive leadership.

Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field with at least 5 year(s) of relevant experience in financial analysis, business operations, or data analytics, including demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Excel or comparable spreadsheet and data analysis tools.
  • According to Executive Order No. GA-48 of the State of Texas: for all positions that research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2), Business and Commerce Code, it is required that both candidates for employment and employees have the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Leads Financial Analysis and Budget Oversight: Oversees financial performance monitoring across areas of responsibility within a designated department (e.g., sponsored projects, clinical trials, outpatient clinics, programs). Conducts complex variance analysis and identifies financial risks and opportunities. Communicates financial analyses, budgets, and forecasts to leaders to support informed decision making. Validates transaction coding and ensures compliance with financial policies. Partners with operational and administrative stakeholders, such as finance and program teams, to support budget development and forecasting. Advises leadership on budget alignment and resource allocation.
  • Drives Operational Process Improvement: Leads initiatives to streamline workflows and improve operational efficiency. Conducts root cause analysis and recommends corrective actions. Designs and implements process improvement frameworks. Develops workflow models and performance metrics. Documents process improvements and maintains records of changes and outcomes.
  • Develops Advanced Data Reporting and Automation Tools: Designs and maintains complex dashboards using tools such as Power BI, Tableau or similar platforms. Automates recurring reports and data workflows to improve efficiency using reporting and analytical tools (e.g., Excel). Synthesizes data from multiple systems to support decision-making and assists leadership in anticipating downstream impacts and related considerations. Ensures data accuracy, consistency, and compliance with governance standards. Provides actionable insights through advanced analytics and visualization.
  • Leads Strategic Planning and Program Evaluation: Builds financial models to support long-term planning and strategic initiatives. Conducts scenario analysis and forecasting for departmental growth. Collaborates with leadership and cross-functional partners to align analytics with organizational goals. Supports program reviews and performance evaluations. Advises on resource optimization and investment strategies.
  • Oversees Grant, Clinical Trial, Clinic, or Program Financials: Leads budget development for sponsored projects, clinical trials, programs, or outpatient clinics. Monitors post-award, clinic, or program financial performance and compliance. Prepares financial documentation for reporting and audits. Collaborates with internal stakeholders across administrative, clinical, and operational functions. Tracks effort reporting, allowable expenses, and regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitates Stakeholder Engagement and Communication: Communicates complex findings and recommendations to senior leadership. Leads cross-functional meetings and workshops to gather requirements. Serves as a liaison between finance and operational stakeholders to support coordination and alignment. Escalates issues and ensures timely resolution of analytics deliverables. Maintains effective communication and follow through with external partners to ensure timely resolution and progress on initiatives. Builds collaborative relationships across the organization.
  • Participates in enterprise-wide strategic initiatives and task forces.
  • Supports training and mentoring of junior analysts and staff.
  • Contributes to proposal development and associated financial planning.
  • Assists with vendor negotiations and contract evaluations.
  • Attends industry conferences and professional development events.
  • Performs related duties as required.
