About The Position

UPMC is looking for a Senior BI Developer- (Systems/Data Analyst) to join their team. This position will be fully remote. Description This role is listed as a Senior BI Developer however will be more focused on the Systems/Data Analyst side. Project Management, Data Governance, and Data Enablement & Onboarding will be more of the focal points of this role. This role supports solutions that turn data into actionable information by ensuring clarity in documentation, creating high-quality specifications, and empowering end users through training, onboarding, and knowledge‑sharing programs. This role focuses on data governance, data literacy, and providing a consistent experience for teams across UPMC. This senior-level position will act as a mentor, guiding others while organizing and maturing Data Enablement practices across the organization.

Requirements

  • Preferred Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, HIM, Statistics, or similar; OR 4 years equivalent analytics or data enablement experience.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Understanding of data governance, data quality, and data management principles.
  • Ability to plan and manage simultaneous tasks and projects.
  • High degree of professionalism, enthusiasm, and initiative.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation quality.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with modern data platform technologies such as Snowflake, Azure Data Factory, HVR, or similar tools is a plus.
  • Experience with data literacy, training, or analytics onboarding programs preferred.
  • Healthcare experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Data Enablement & Onboarding
  • Create and maintain onboarding playbooks, process documentation, and learning paths for new users.
  • Develop and maintain a Community of Practice (name TBD) focused on data literacy and analytics skill development.
  • Conduct workshops, labs, and training sessions to promote platform adoption and help users understand data tools, processes, and best practices.
  • Track skill gaps, recommend tailored learning opportunities, and measure enablement program outcomes.
  • Manage the IT Data & Analytics Viva Engage space to support communication, collaboration, and self‑service learning.
  • Requirements Gathering & Specifications
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather requirements, clarify use cases, and document user stories.
  • Create structured functional and technical specifications to support data products and analytics initiatives.
  • Work with data engineers, governance teams, and analysts to ensure documentation accuracy.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Management
  • Maintain a comprehensive knowledge base including processes, standards, FAQs, and user guidance.
  • Ensure all materials follow consistent structure, terminology, and quality guidelines.
  • Contribute to metadata, data lineage, and cataloging efforts to ensure BI assets and data products are well‑documented, discoverable, and easy to navigate.
  • Collaborate with Data Governance and Alation teams to align documentation with organizational standards.
  • Governance & Collaboration
  • Support data governance best practices, helping teams understand proper use of data assets, metadata, and policies.
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure onboarding, literacy, and governance initiatives align.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members.
  • General Responsibilities
  • Manage tasks and timelines related to assigned work.
  • Take ownership of initiatives and support milestone completion.
  • Partner with leadership on new data enablement and analytics program initiatives.
