The role of a Data Engineer involves building data pipelines that support modern applications and insights platforms. Data engineers at Andersen Consulting work closely with client technical teams, internal engagement leaders, and product managers to understand client data landscapes. The primary responsibilities include designing, developing, and maintaining SQL databases and data pipelines. This position is an individual contributor role, meaning it does not require people management. The Data Engineer will be part of the Global AI & Data practice, which focuses on delivering value through data management and AI, utilizing modern techniques and tools to achieve rapid results.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain SQL databases and data pipelines.
  • Write efficient, complex SQL queries to extract, manipulate, and analyze data.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance.
  • Ensure data quality and integrity.
  • Assist in data migration and integration projects.
  • Document database structures, procedures, and processes.
  • Work directly with client technical teams to explore source data and define required transformations.
  • Set standards for disciplined data engineering, including automated testing and continuous integration.
  • Effectively communicate with Business Analysts, Solution Architects, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into development activities.
  • Collaborate with others in the Global AI & Data practice to enhance knowledge of data management and pipelining.

Requirements

  • Technical background in computer science, information technology, data management, or related fields.
  • Proven track record of designing and deploying large-scale data engineering solutions that deliver ongoing value.
  • Professional experience with relational and non-relational database technologies with expert-level knowledge of SQL.
  • Basic understanding of data warehousing concepts and familiarity with ETL processes and tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional experience with cloud-based data solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Ability to context-switch and provide support to dispersed teams needing technical assistance.
  • An engineering mindset, willing to make rapid, pragmatic decisions to improve performance.
