About the position

The Senior Additive Manufacturing Process Engineer at RTX Corporation will play a crucial role in advancing additive manufacturing technology for commercial aerospace and defense products. This position involves solving complex engineering challenges, developing advanced process parameters, and collaborating with various teams to enhance manufacturing capabilities. The engineer will be responsible for overseeing development builds, investigating machine variability, and leading projects to industrialize additive manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Support external project proposals to advance AM technology
  • Develop advanced process parameters to enable complex geometries with enhanced material properties
  • Investigate sources of machine variability and develop methods to eliminate observed variability
  • Execute and oversee development builds on various Additive Manufacturing machines
  • Collaborate with internal and external groups to develop whitepapers, project concepts, and responsive proposals
  • Explore the capabilities of advanced tools and equipment to characterize machines and process space
  • Develop machine installation, machine operation, and part qualification processes and standards
  • Work with cross-functional teams including materials, design, simulation, operations, and characterization engineers to gain a deep understanding of and support the full value stream
  • Work with RTX Business Units to understand and address their needs
  • Lead projects to advance the industrialization of AM at RTX

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or a Master's Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience or a PhD
  • Deep technical writing and research skills with strong presentation, planning, problem solving, organizational, and project management skills
  • Scripting experience with Matlab, Python, VBA, JavaScript or similar and experience with software and tools used in Additive Manufacturing including CAD packages
  • Hands on experience with metal laser powder-bed-fusion AM equipment and a basic understanding of low voltage sensors and control systems
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
