About The Position

Performs mid-level work by supporting and enhancing the City of Leander's Active Adult Program located in the Senior Activity Center. This position involves assisting in the planning, coordination, and execution of various programs, activities, and events tailored for citizens ages 55 years and above. Generally, this position uses moderately complex skills and works under close supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Ability to work hours other than the regular daytime schedule such as afternoons, evenings, and weekends.

Requirements

  • High School degree or its equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of relevant experience.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • First Aid and CPR/AED certification required, or ability to obtain it within the six months of hire.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of citizens and employees of the City.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow detailed verbal and written instructions.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Analyze situations and adopt quick, effect, and reasonable courses of action.
  • Skill in directing activities and events.
  • Skill in using computers and related software applications.
  • Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
  • Ability to plan strategically.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, the public, elected officials, and boards and commissions in a courteous and diplomatic manner.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle and feel items, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Proof of education, certification(s) and experience as listed on the employment application based on the job posting requirements.
  • Satisfactory results from a pre-employment criminal history background and driving record check.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Compliance with the Selective Service Registration for male US citizens and immigrants, who are ages 18-25.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Texas Class C CDL driver’s license (Passenger Endorsement), or the ability to obtain the license within one year from hire date.
  • Associate’s degree or higher, from a college with the major studies in a related area.
  • Two or more years of experience working with the senior population.

Responsibilities

  • Reports directly to Senior Activity Center Assistant Supervisor and works collaboratively with the Active Adult Program Coordinator to plan and implement a diverse range of programs, activities, and day trips for Leander citizens 55+ years of age.
  • Assists in coordinating daily activities and events for the Active Adult Program, ensuring a safe, enjoyable, and engaging experience for participants.
  • Serves as a welcoming presence by greeting members and guests, answering questions, and providing information about programs and activities.
  • Scans members membership cards upon entry to the facilities and programs.
  • Assists in adding activities, classes, and events to the online registration software, ensuring they are accurately listed and ready for member registration.
  • Assists members with signing up for programs and activities using the City’s online registration software.
  • Sets up classrooms and activity spaces to be ready for programs, classes, and events, ensuring they are organized and equipped with necessary materials and supplies.
  • Provides exceptional customer service to participants and the public through various communication channels, answer inquiries, and offers program information.
  • Assists with data analytics by conducting program evaluations, analyzing results, making recommendations for improvements, and implementing changes as necessary.
  • Assists in the creation and distribution of program materials such as monthly calendar, activity descriptions, emails, fliers, posters, and displays.
  • Responds to emergency situations promptly, administer first aid, CPR, and other medical attention as needed.
  • Addresses and documents participant complaints and requests for information professionally and efficiently.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
