About The Position

Join our Financial Reporting team as a Senior Accountant, in our Home Office in Calgary, AB! We are seeking a highly capable Senior Accountant who can effectively navigate complex accounting matters and deliver high-quality, detail-oriented work. This role supports the monthly, quarterly and annual close processes for the consolidated entity and its subsidiaries, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.

Requirements

  • CPA designation with and 2+ years in a senior-level accounting role
  • Experience with ERP systems (Netsuite preferred) and advanced excel skills
  • Experience with EPM tools (OneStream or Hyperion)
  • Solid understanding of ASPE, financial regulations and internal controls
  • High attention to detail, organized and able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Self-motivated with exceptional problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to quickly step into the role, work independently with minimal supervision, and confidently manage complex accounting tasks
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • A collaborative, adaptable, and proactive team player with a growth mindset, able to manage changing priorities effectively

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a public accounting firm is considered an asset
  • Experience in the retail and / or health sector considered an asset
  • Bilingualism English/French is considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Perform month-end and period-end close procedures, including preparation and review of complex journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting working papers to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts, investigating variances between the general ledger, subledgers, and operational systems to ensure data accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting schedules and supporting documentation in accordance with accounting standards and internal policies.
  • Research and make recommendations relating to technical accounting matters.
  • Consolidate subsidiary balance sheet accounts and maintain supporting leadsheets across entities to support accurate financial reporting.
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls over financial reporting by improving accounting procedures, documentation, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation and act as a liaison with external auditors during audit engagements.
  • Drive initiatives to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness of financial reporting and month-end close processes.
  • Improve workflows, leveraging PowerBi, OneStream, and other automation tools.
  • Assist with financial analysis and ad hoc projects as required.
  • Mentor junior team members, providing ongoing guidance and support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the team and organizational goals.
