About The Position

The Senior Accountant will assist the Chief Financial Officer “CFO” in managing the financial records and accounting functions of Clay County Utility Authority.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Excel; basic proficiency with Microsoft Word and Outlook required.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) principles.
  • Provide high level of service to targeted customer base.
  • Respond promptly and accurately to internal and external requests for information.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with all levels of the organization; collaborate and work with individuals containing a variety of knowledge levels and expertise.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of five years of progressive responsibility in an accounting department or division, preferred.
  • Experience with a governmental entity and/or utility, preferred.
  • Knowledge of Workday, SpryCIS and Laserfiche preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Assist with the preparation of annual budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting principles and standards (GAAP, GASB, etc.)
  • Oversee account reconciliations pertaining to banking, investments, and other accounts as directed.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and ensure all financial transactions are recorded correctly.
  • Perform trend analysis and monitoring of income statement accounts.
  • Support the month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Monitor work results of direct subordinates; provide support to accounts payable, cash receipt and billing staff to ensure proper handling and accounting of utility financial transactions.
  • Assist with recording fixed asset additions, disposals, and related transactions; reconcile fixed asset amounts to related balance sheet accounts.
  • Assist with CCUA’s annual audit; prepare and provide workpapers and schedules requested by the auditor.
  • Assist CFO with tasks and projects as directed.
