About The Position

The Senior Accountant assigned to Grower Accounts is a senior-level individual-contributor responsible for the accurate and timely accounting of grower harvest, shipping, sales, and settlement activities, while also performing general accounting functions that support the preparation of accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP. This role ensures the integrity and traceability of grower transactions, manages complex reconciliations and accounting activities, supports month-end and year-end close processes, and contributes to cash management and financial compliance. The position serves as a subject matter resource, assisting with process improvements and providing guidance and review of work performed by junior accounting staff.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years or more of accounting experience is required
  • Advanced software skills are required, including Microsoft Office suite applications, (i.e., Excel, Word and Business Intelligence) is required
  • Will operate various office equipment, including (not inclusive list): telephone, computer keyboard, photocopy machine, fax, 10-key calculator by touch, and other clerical and office equipment
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with growers, employees, supervisors, customers and peers
  • Ability to research, retrieve and organize data to prepare reports and financial documentation; accurately perform complex mathematical computations
  • Train, plan and coordinate work of others; coordinate workflow effectively, efficiently, and neatly
  • Make decisions on a variety of complex matters in accordance with established procedures
  • High level of attention to detail as well as superior organizational skills.
  • Keep projects on schedule; able to work well under pressure
  • A self-starter, ensure delegated tasks are completed with minimal supervisor follow-up.
  • Proactively communicate task and project updates to manager.
  • Learn and absorb new duties with minimal repetition or re-training from manager

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration is highly desired
  • Comparable experience in related agriculture accounting is highly desired
  • Bilingual, bi-literate in English and Spanish is highly desired
  • Prior Famous experience is highly desired

Responsibilities

  • Create and set up Grower Blocks, Contract IDs, Distribution IDs, Product IDs, and Auto-charges in the Famous system
  • Account for grower harvest, shipped, and sales activity; ensure complete traceability from field to customer
  • Liquidate returns and process End-of-Season (EOS) pool settlements accurately and on schedule
  • Prepare grower reports related to crop information and regional sales for internal stakeholders and growers
  • Review grower contracts and distribution arrangements for proper accounting treatment; flag and resolve discrepancies
  • Serve as a senior point of contact for complex grower inquiries; partner with Farming, Harvesting, and Sales to develop and reconcile reports
  • Serves as back-up to Grower Accounting Manager
  • Prepare and review journal entries and balance sheet account reconciliations as part of the monthly close, covering both grower payables (A/P Growers) and general ledger accounts
  • Perform cash management activities and related reconciliations
  • Support produce inventory management, contract labor and vendor onboarding as required
  • Ensure transactions are recorded to the correct accounts and time periods; analyze accuracy of costs and sales
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies and controls
  • Review journal entries and reconciliations prepared by other accountants; provide guidance and mentorship to junior grower and general accountants
  • Partner with FP&A, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and other functional groups to support overall business objectives
  • Support the annual financial audit and respond to auditor and tax requests across grower and general accounting
  • Identify and implement process improvements and drive efficiencies
  • Perform ad hoc reporting, research, and analysis as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
