As a Senior Accountant on the Capital Markets Accounting team within Finance, you'll own the accounting and regulatory reporting foundation for Coinbase's registered Futures Commission Merchant (FCM) and Broker-Dealer entities. This team sits at the core of our expanding retail and institutional derivatives and brokerage businesses, ensuring financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and audit readiness. You'll lead close processes, drive reporting to regulators and leadership, and strengthen the control environment as these entities scale.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Accounting or related field with active CPA certification.
  • 5-7 years of public accounting (Big 4 preferred) and/or industry experience within brokerage, FCM, or other regulated financial services organizations.
  • Working knowledge of FINRA/SEC broker-dealer rules, CFTC/NFA regulations for registered FCMs, and relevant accounting guidance including ASC 815 (Derivatives and Hedging) and 17 CFR 1.20 (customer fund protection).
  • Demonstrated experience managing regulatory filings, audit cycles, and multiple concurrent reporting deadlines in a compliance-driven environment.
  • Ability to work EST hours to meet daily regulatory filing deadlines.
  • Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Own all aspects of monthly accounting close for the FCM and Broker-Dealer entities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, financial statement preparation, and quarterly/annual financial results.
  • Drive timely submission of all required regulatory reporting to the CFTC, NFA, and other applicable agencies, ensuring daily filing deadlines are met.
  • Lead internal and external audit processes for the registered FCM and Broker-Dealer entities, coordinating evidence requests and managing audit timelines.
  • Execute and maintain internal controls over compliance, regulatory reporting, and accounting policies and procedures.
  • Partner with product, engineering, operations, and legal teams to drive accounting readiness for new product launches and evolving business requirements.
  • Strengthen daily monitoring of entity liquidity and capital requirements, escalating material issues to stakeholders promptly.
