About the position
The Security Screener position at the Escambia County Sheriff's Office is responsible for ensuring the security and safety of court property and personnel. This role involves screening visitors and employees, inspecting baggage and packages, and operating basic security equipment. The Security Screener will also preserve order and enforce regulations, providing a courteous and respectful atmosphere for all employees and visitors.
Responsibilities
- Observe and report activities and incidents to ensure security and safety.
- Conduct screening of visitors and employees, baggage, or packages for compliance with court regulations.
- Operate basic security equipment such as x-ray machines and hand wands at screening checkpoints.
- Control access into and out of designated areas and notify appropriate individuals of suspicious activities.
- Enter and retrieve information into logs, record books, spreadsheets, and/or databases.
- Perform pat-down or hand-held wand searches of visitors as needed.
- Inspect items using x-ray equipment and confiscate dangerous items as necessary.
- Provide information to the public and others by phone, fax, or in person.
- Maintain a courteous and respectful interaction with employees and visitors.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
- Up to one (1) year of clerical and customer service or security experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of customer service principles, filing principles, data entry techniques, and basic bookkeeping.
