About The Position

Provide security services for patients, visitors, and staff throughout the hospital, clinics, and administrative facility. This role involves ensuring the safety and security of the premises, responding to emergencies, and assisting patients and staff as needed. The Security Officer will work primarily indoors but may be required to handle sensitive situations and accompany patients during medical evacuations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to successfully complete and maintain CPR certification.
  • Documented experience and training in physical restraining combative individuals using a minimum of force or successfully complete before first sole duty.
  • Valid State of Alaska driver’s license required.
  • Demonstrated ability to tactfully and successfully interact with the public in a cross-cultural setting.
  • Must be physically fit (job requirements: heavy lifting, possible physical restraining violent individuals).
  • Must be able to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to the privacy act.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span (e.g. pediatric/adult/geriatric) and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the assigned unit’s policies and procedure.

Nice To Haves

  • Security experience preferred.
  • Yupik fluency is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Use approved restraining techniques (i.e. CPI de-escalation) in situations of active patients.
  • Ensure the facility is adequately locked and/or secured during pre-designated hours by conducting routine security rounds.
  • Screen all persons entering and leaving the hospital building during pre-designated hours.
  • Provide assistance to staff and/or police with emergency room and/or inpatient situations as the situation warrants.
  • Attend to patients at all times while in the emergency room and/or inpatient as the situation warrants, in the absence of a doctor or nurse.
  • Escort and assist patients and staff to their vehicles as appropriate and boarders to their assigned quarters.
  • Transport patients to and from the airport.
  • Be involved in highly sensitive emotional and physical crisis' and need to deal with these in a calm, logical manner.
  • Accompany violent or belligerent patients and medical evacuation to Anchorage.
