About the position

The Security Officer III position at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is responsible for maintaining a secure environment at the Brenham State Supported Living Center. This role involves monitoring surveillance systems, conducting patrols, responding to emergencies, and ensuring the safety of residents, staff, and visitors. The officer will also be involved in training new security personnel and participating in emergency response activities.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor surveillance cameras for unauthorized persons and unusual occurrences.
  • Conduct routine patrols of buildings and grounds.
  • Respond to fire alarms and investigate causes, taking necessary emergency actions.
  • Prepare documentation related to emergencies and security violations.
  • Train and mentor new security officers as needed.
  • Assist in apprehending suspects in cases of unauthorized entry or other violations.
  • Perform monthly fire extinguisher inspections in all buildings.
  • Ensure appropriate lighting for safety of residents, staff, and visitors.
  • Handle after-hours emergency calls to enhance safety.
  • Participate in disaster response and recovery efforts.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 12 months of work experience in security, law enforcement, or military preferred.
  • Experience with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Valid Texas driver's license or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in monitoring surveillance equipment.
  • Knowledge of building security regulations and alarm devices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with potentially aggressive individuals.
