As a Screener with Allied Universal at a corrections location, you will help support a secure environment by screening people and belongings, controlling access points, checking credentials, and monitoring activity for security-related concerns. You will stay highly visible, communicate clearly with staff and visitors, and document observations while following site procedures. Requirements

  • Have 1+ years of security experience.
  • A guard card/license is preferred.
  • Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles.
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.
  • Allied Universal will consider qualified applications with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable laws.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
  • Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
  • A valid driver’s license will be required for driving positions only.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service to visitors, staff, and contractors by following site-specific screening procedures, access control policies, and when appropriate, emergency response activities at a controlled-entry location.
  • Operate walk-through metal detectors, hand-held screening wands, and x-ray or parcel inspection equipment as assigned, checking for prohibited items and reporting findings per post orders.
  • Verify identification, visitor authorization, and appointment information; issue and/or collect badges and maintain required entry logs and documentation.
  • Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner, notifying site leadership and/or Allied Universal management as needed.
  • Conduct routine checks of screening areas and nearby entry points to help to deter unauthorized access, document unusual activity, and support orderly movement through checkpoints.
