About the position

To provide a safe and secure environment for all associates, volunteers, physicians and visitors by patrolling the hospital building and grounds. May be summoned to assist when the safety of staff, patients, and visitors is questioned.

Responsibilities

  • Walk and/or stand for extended periods of time in various weather conditions and in various indoor and outdoor areas.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations of complaints and incidents and follow up on investigations per the instruction of the Manager or Director.
  • Answer all disturbance and criminal offense calls, as directed.
  • Enforce parking guidelines and maintain an orderly flow of traffic on the facilities.
  • Report eminent safety and fire hazards immediately and take necessary corrective action as required.
  • Participate during all drills per department procedures.
  • Investigate all incidents involving lost property, missing property, stolen property, vandalism, disturbances, and other incidents assigned by the manager.
  • Check all doors on all levels of facility that should be secure at all times.
  • Inspect all elevators and interior fire escape stairwells to ensure that there are no obstructions.
  • Check constantly the outer portion of the building for any safety hazards.
  • Accompany cash and mail movements from the Business Office, Cafeteria, and Gift Shop, as requested.
  • Log all lost and found articles and ensure proper entry is complete.
  • Remain highly visible during continuous patrol and maintain continuous radio contact with the switchboard operator.
  • Monitor facility using electronic security equipment and check all alarm systems routinely.
  • Complete daily security rounds log and accurately report to Director / Manager / Supervisor.
  • Observe, investigate, and document all incidents by end of each shift.
  • Patrol all hospital parking lots and buildings on assigned shift.
  • Provide escorts when requested.
  • Monitor Concealed Weapons Detector Software and address persons and situations where Detector may indicate weapons carried.

Requirements

  • Maintains proper training and certification to carry a firearm.
  • Knows the layout of the hospital.
  • Responds to calls for assistance immediately.
