About the position

The Security Clearance Clerk is responsible for performing security clearance and fingerprinting duties in a specialized unit, applying advanced screening standards and guidelines in a professional manner. This role involves decision-making related to individual security clearances to ensure a safe environment. Responsibilities include processing employees, maintaining records, and interacting with various agencies and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Fingerprint and process employees while adhering to standard processing protocols.
  • Perform independent clerical work requiring independent judgment.
  • Assist and cooperate with agencies such as FDLE, FLDOE, and CCLE.
  • Receive and screen incoming mail, forwarding sensitive information as necessary.
  • Compile and edit information related to security clearance protocols.
  • Maintain records on incoming correspondence and action documents.
  • Act as the office receptionist, answering phones and greeting visitors.
  • Prepare general memoranda and correspondence as requested.
  • Interact effectively with the public, staff, students, and parents using tact and good judgment.
  • Operate standard office equipment, including fingerprinting and badging equipment.
  • Participate in training programs to enhance skills related to job responsibilities.
  • Contact various departments and non-school personnel for information.
  • Lead the implementation and maintenance of processes related to fingerprint transactions.
  • Ensure compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies.
  • Review current developments and literature related to job responsibilities.
  • Adhere to safety rules and procedures, following federal and state laws and School Board policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Standard high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful secretarial/clerical work experience within the last six (6) years.
  • Ability to make decisions and apply good judgment based on applicable rules and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of computers and office equipment.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Computer skills are required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Broward County School District work experience.
  • Knowledge of business practices related to fingerprinting and background screening.
  • Ability to make security clearance decisions when necessary.
  • Bilingual skills.

Benefits

  • Salary range: $35,367 - $54,214
  • Paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan.
  • Length of work year and hours established by the School Board.
