The Unit Secretary position at the Department of Justice involves providing administrative support within a correctional environment. Responsibilities

• Handle routine inquiries from staff and inmates, providing technical assistance and answering questions regarding correctional programs.
• Receive orders to the office, determine the nature of requests, and direct them to appropriate staff or provide information personally.
• Review correspondence prepared for the supervisor and other staff.
• Assist the Unit Manager and staff members in expediting the work of the office.
• Maintain security of the institution as part of correctional responsibilities.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service.
• Experience in handling requests for information and processing incoming and outgoing materials such as correspondence and reports.
• Experience in editing and composing letters and reports, transcribing notes, and reviewing correspondence.
• Experience performing office automation duties using a personal computer, including preparing documents and maintaining computer files.
