About the position

INTERPOL is now looking for a qualified candidate as a SECONDMENT - Assistant Director Fugitive Investigative Support within the Operational Support and Analysis Directorate which is part of the Executive Directorate Police Services. The Fugitive Investigative Support (FIS) Sub-Directorate assists member countries in the location and apprehension of fugitives, through a number of initiatives, including the provision of operational support, focused projects, operational working groups, conferences and training initiatives. FIS also cooperates with international Courts and Tribunals, national entities and other international organizations, to support searches for individuals wanted for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity. The Assistant Director FIS will manage the team in order to maintain and expand a network of experts in fugitive investigations as well as to share of best practices and innovative techniques and to provide specialized training to build capacity in fugitive investigations, including the tracking of Genocide, Crimes against Humanity and War Crimes perpetrators at large.

Responsibilities

  • Define, plan, and implement the activities and policies of the Sub-Directorate to provide quality, up-to-date specialized operational police support.
  • Initiate, coordinate, and ensure timely identification of existing and emerging database and data processing related issues.
  • Develop and maintain effective contacts with other Sub-Directorates and Directorates of the General Secretariat.
  • Maintain a detailed knowledge of the activities, strategies and tactical objectives of project teams under direct supervision.
  • Seek self-developed and independent solutions for Sub-Directorate issues and provide recommendations for projects.
  • Act on behalf of the Director in his/her absence at organizational and international conferences and/or meetings.
  • Carry out all other duties as may be directed by the Director or the Executive Director Police Services.

Requirements

  • 5 year's University degree (preferably in Law, Public Policy or Police Management).
  • Law enforcement training at senior level.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in the area in question and proven experience in management.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience as a Senior Manager of a national law enforcement agency or an equivalent position in an international law enforcement organization.
  • Sound background in fugitive investigations related to highly specialized criminal investigations.
  • Experience in planning and managing complex tasks with minimum supervision.
  • Experience working in an international environment.
  • Experience in working with computers including knowledge of oral presentations software, business intelligence and word processing software.
  • Strong communication skills both in written and oral form.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency in a second official working language (Arabic, French or Spanish) would be an additional asset.
