About the position

Under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Special Events Coordinator, this position is responsible for assisting and supporting special events including, concerts, runs, art programs, festivals, holidays events, community events, and other programming. We are seeking candidates who are enthusiastic about events and outdoor programming to join our team. Events and day-to-day activities are constantly evolving allowing for creative thinking and on-the-fly decision making. Applicants seeking to grow experience in parks and recreation and/or special events are encouraged to apply. Events take place at locations around Evanston, candidate must have reliable transportation to areas of Evanston.

Responsibilities

• Assists with set-up and clean-up of special events equipment including tables, chairs, tents, signage, and other equipment.
• Must be able and willing to drive a city vehicle.
• Provides support to the events team and staff.
• Assists with the implementation of special events.
• Monitors events during weekend and evening hours.
• Assists with loading and unloading of equipment for events.
• Supports hands-on activities and programming at events.
• Helps maintain special events warehouse and inventory.
• Provides exemplary customer service when interacting with event attendees.
• Performs related tasks as required.

Requirements

• Must possess a high school diploma, GED, or higher.
• Must be able and willing to drive a city vehicle.
• Must have state drivers license.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
• Must be willing and able to work nights, weekends, and some holidays.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
• Ability to greet and communicate with the public in a courteous and professional manner.

Benefits

• Starting salary is $17.00 per hour.
• Work schedule varies depending on event needs, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
