As a Seasonal Proofreader for the Division of Legislative Services, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and clarity of legislative drafts. Your primary responsibility will be to identify and correct grammatical, typographical, and compositional errors in these documents. This includes correcting grammar, punctuation, spelling, and content errors quickly and accurately while adhering to the established guidelines and the Code of Virginia's style. You will be expected to maintain a high level of consistency and attention to detail throughout your work. In addition to proofreading, you may be assigned additional tasks as needed, which will require you to be adaptable and responsive to the needs of the team. The position is designed for individuals who are detail-oriented and possess a strong understanding of the nuances between editing and rewriting. You will need to demonstrate a customer service-oriented approach, showcasing excellent interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills. A positive and enthusiastic attitude is essential, as is the ability to work diligently both independently and collaboratively. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must, along with a willingness to learn from constructive feedback and continuously seek improvement. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is required, and being technically savvy will be beneficial in this role. This is a temporary position with a defined start and end date, allowing for flexibility to work from home or in the office. The role is part of a continuous recruitment effort to build an applicant pool for the Division of Legislative Services, with the expectation that selected candidates will be available to begin work in October 2024 and continue through February 2025.
