About the position

This position involves assisting departmental field employees with duties and responsibilities associated with daily job assignments including park maintenance, facility maintenance, and refuse elimination. The role provides assistance and resources to employees, managers, and the general public regarding programs within the City of Evanston. The position offers 20 - 40 hours per week between the hours of 6:45 AM - 2:45 PM, Monday to Friday, and reports directly to the assigned crew or supervisor within the Department.

Responsibilities

• Drives all types of solid waste semi-automated packer trucks in the business district, on narrow streets, in the alleys and to transfer sites outside the city limits.
• Safely operates other pieces of equipment and tools of various sizes with different attachments including a number of hand and garden tools to perform various streets and sanitation tasks.
• Supports special events.
• Checks condition of tools and equipment periodically and performs routine preventative maintenance.
• Performs daily equipment inspections.
• Performs a variety of other maintenance tasks assigned to the division and department.
• Picks up litter in public areas after community events; loads debris into containers and empties containers.

Requirements

• Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
• One (1) year of driving experience with CDL related vehicles and equipment.
• Must possess a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with air brakes endorsement.
• Must have a safe driving record.
