About the position
The Seasonal Highway Technician 1/Highway Maintenance, CDL Driver position at the Ohio Department of Transportation involves operating basic equipment for snow and ice removal, performing emergency response and traffic control, and maintaining roadways to ensure safety for the public. This part-time role requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and focuses on outdoor work in various weather conditions, contributing to the maintenance and improvement of Ohio's transportation infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Operate basic equipment related to snow and ice removal and roadway maintenance.
- Perform emergency response, clean-up, and traffic control.
- Construct, improve, maintain, repair, and clean highways and roadways.
- Excavate and grade ditches, dig channels, and clean waterways.
- Cut brush, grass, and other vegetation; apply chemicals to vegetation.
- Patch and seal berm and pavement; mix mortar and concrete.
- Install and repair catch basins and perform drainage work.
- Maintain, repair, and install traffic signs and pavement markings.
- Assist stranded motorists and respond to general inquiries from the public.
- Keep daily records and logs of work performed.
Requirements
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Formal education in arithmetic including addition, subtraction, decimals, percentages, and fractions.
- Ability to read, write, and speak common English vocabulary.
- 3 months of training or experience in operation of basic equipment.
