About the position

The Seasonal Biological Technician - Vegetation position at the County of Marin involves working in the Conservation Science program, focusing on vegetation management and invasive species control. Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight for a crew of up to six seasonal assistants focused on managing invasive plant species.
  • Assist the Vegetation Specialist with project planning and logistics coordination.
  • Promote safe and effective fieldwork practices.
  • Conduct surveys for early detection of invasive plant species and manage rapid response treatments.
  • Perform vegetation surveys for rare plant populations and priority weed infestations.
  • Support other programs or teams as needed.
  • Treat invasive plants and participate in restoration planting activities.
  • Monitor and collect plant and wildlife population data using GPS/GIS.
  • Maintain tools and equipment and perform general park maintenance.

Requirements

  • Six months of experience in biological monitoring, wildlife surveying, habitat assessments, or vegetation management.
  • Completion of 12 semester units or 18 quarter units in environmental science, forest/wildlife ecology, or biological science may substitute for experience.
  • Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License with a satisfactory driving history.
  • Willingness to learn four-wheel drive vehicle operations and digital mapping techniques.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ArcGIS and local plant identification.
  • Familiarity with local vegetation communities and habitat restoration concepts.
  • Possession of a valid applicator license or certificate from the California Department of Pesticide Regulation.
