About the position

The CTE Health Science/Biology Teacher/SkillsUSA Advisor position at Ilwaco High School is a full-time role for the 2025-26 school year. The teacher will be responsible for organizing, teaching, and developing materials for a program that meets course goals and objectives, advising a student leadership organization (SkillsUSA), and integrating work-based learning experiences into classroom instruction. The position requires effective instructional strategies to engage students and maintain accurate records for state reports. The teacher will also articulate programs with local community colleges and participate in various meetings and professional development activities.

Responsibilities

  • Organize, teach and develop materials for a program that meets the course goals and objectives
  • Advise a student leadership organization (SkillsUSA) including travel, competition, and fundraising
  • Integrate work-based learning experiences into classroom instruction
  • Provide an effective instructional environment that engages students
  • Maintain appropriate and accurate records and assist in completing state reports
  • Teach career exploration and assist students in the development of a High School and Beyond Plan
  • Articulate programs with local community colleges
  • Maintain financial records pertaining to the program and student leadership organization
  • Complete program planning and program evaluation in cooperation with state guidelines
  • Attend and participate in CTE advisory meetings several times a year
  • Attend and participate in staffing, department, district, and employer meetings as required
  • Participate and work cooperatively on school projects
  • Develop, maintain, and update course frameworks as needed
  • Teach approved curriculum
  • Participate in IEP planning sessions as appropriate
  • Provide for the supervision of students in the classroom and on the school premises as required
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Maintain and update all required professional certifications including First Aid/CPR
  • Participate in professional development activities
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies
  • Fulfill all other responsibilities as assigned

Requirements

  • A valid Washington State Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teaching Certificate with V-Codes that allow for teaching 260102 Biomedical Sciences is preferred
  • 6 years or more of high school Biology instruction experience, or
  • 6 years or more of occupational experience in Biomedical fields, or
  • Science endorsements on a valid Washington State Teaching Certificate
  • PLTW (Project Lead the Way) Biomedical Sciences certification or the ability to attend training in the summer of 2025

  • Industry experience in a business or industry-related position preferred
  • Ability to use a variety of assessment strategies
  • Ability to handle confidential matters appropriately and ethically
  • Ability to de-escalate student behavior
  • Experience working with high school students preferred
  • Ability to uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures

  • Salary Range: $55,378 - $104,376 DOE based on OBEA 2024-2025 salary schedule
