About the position

The University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking a highly skilled Functional/Epilepsy Neurosurgeon to join its renowned Department of Neurosurgery. This position involves managing and treating patients with functional and epilepsy-related neurological disorders in an academic environment, emphasizing patient care, research, and education. The role offers the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art techniques and equipment while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of experts.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and diagnose patients with functional neurological disorders and epilepsy.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans, including surgical intervention and medication management.
  • Perform complex neurosurgical procedures such as deep brain stimulation (DBS) and laser ablation.
  • Monitor and follow up on patient progress, adjusting treatment plans as needed.
  • Engage in clinical and translational research related to functional and epilepsy neurosurgery.
  • Collaborate with other researchers and contribute to ongoing research projects.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.
  • Educate and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows in neurosurgery.
  • Participate in didactic and clinical teaching activities.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care to patients.

Requirements

  • Medical degree (MD or equivalent) and board certification in neurosurgery.
  • Fellowship training in functional neurosurgery and/or epilepsy surgery.
  • Eligibility for licensure in the state of Alabama.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the evaluation and surgical management of functional and epilepsy-related neurological disorders.
  • Strong commitment to patient-centered care, research, and education.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
