About The Position

We are committed to ensuring the safety of students by providing the highest standard of nursing care in the school and community setting so that every student has the opportunity to achieve their educational potential. We are nurses, care coordinators, health educators, health assistants, administrative staff, screening and prevention specialists who accomplish this by providing and coordinating specialized health services that support the educational experience for students throughout Multnomah and Clackamas County. We are committed to employee and wellness, advocacy on behalf of students and their families, collaboration with community health systems and school based health centers, research and development to improve population health in schools, and using evidenced-based practice in the delivery of care. We support the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model that combines and builds on elements of the traditional coordinated school health approach by responding to the call for greater alignment, integration, and collaboration between education and health to improve each child's cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development. This position is for on-call School Health Assistants for the 2026–2027 school year. Applications are being accepted at this time and will be reviewed on an ongoing basis as staffing needs and position availability arise.

Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and demonstrate competency
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle available for use on the job
  • Computer skills
  • Must demonstrate good penmanship and accurate spelling
  • Maintain satisfactory attendance
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Experience working in the health or medical field
  • At least 1 year experience (within the last 5 years) working with groups of children in a professional or volunteer capacity, or Any combination of education and experience that would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge, and ability required to perform the job.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to successfully complete training for Medication Administration (ORS 339.867-870); Training for Emergency Glucagon Providers (ORS 433.800- 830); and Treatment of Severe Allergic Reaction (ORS 433.800-830). ORS 433.800 - requires an individual trained to respond to a severe allergic reaction, and to administer emergency glucagon
  • Bilingual, bicultural preferred
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification that meets AHA Red Cross Standards and states that the individual has successfully completed a skill/return demonstration

Responsibilities

  • Administer and document student medications following established SHS procedures
  • Perform first aid for students with acute and chronic health conditions
  • Assist school and MESD with immunization management
  • Provide emergency care, including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Automated External Defibrillator (AED) as necessary
  • Complete daily electronic health record documentation following established SHS procedures that is accurate and confidential
  • Communicate necessary information to the appropriate school nurse, SHS staff, school personnel, and parents/guardians while maintaining confidentiality
  • Utilize personal safety techniques to avoid exposure and injury to self, students, and other staff
  • Consistently communicate in a professional manner
  • Demonstrate ability to manage multiple and/or repetitive tasks
  • Ability to work without direct supervision
  • Ability to work with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Attend department and other staff meetings
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
