About The Position

Kainalu Elementary is seeking a School Counselor to implement and facilitate school-wide social-emotional learning (SEL) programming, utilize the Inclusive Skill-Building Learning Approach (ISLA) for proactive intervention, lead Restorative Justice practices, collaborate with teachers and administrators on individualized student intervention plans, engage families and the community, and provide crisis response and counseling. The Hawaii State Department of Education is committed to hiring highly qualified teachers. A Bachelor's Degree is the minimum qualification for this position. If hired without completing a Teacher's Education Program, candidates have a maximum of 3 years to obtain a valid Hawaii teaching license and must enroll in a Program to continue employment. Active pursuit towards meeting Hawaii licensing requirements must be demonstrated annually. A valid Hawaii teaching license or Emergency Hire Permit is required upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and facilitate school-wide social-emotional learning (SEL) programming utilizing the Choose Love curriculum to promote resilience, connection, and compassion.
  • Utilize the Inclusive Skill-Building Learning Approach (ISLA) to teach positive replacement behaviors, reduce instructional leadership loss, and support students within their natural learning environments.
  • Lead and facilitate Restorative Justice practices, including community circles and restorative conferences, to repair harm, resolve conflicts, and maintain accountability while preserving student dignity.
  • Partner proactively with teachers, administrators, and specialized staff within our collaborative team model to design, implement, and monitor individualized student intervention plans.
  • Serve as a bridge between home and school, providing resources, workshops, and direct communication to support families and strengthen our 'ohana community.
  • Provide short-term individual and small-group counseling to address immediate social, emotional, or behavioral needs.
