About the position

The University of Saint Joseph invites qualified applicants to serve as part-time adjunct faculty within the Counseling & Applied Behavioral Studies Department. The department is actively recruiting several adjuncts for the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters for faculty to teach courses within our CACREP accredited clinical mental health counseling and school counseling programs. The School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate programs seek skilled counselors (school and clinical) and counselor educators to teach a range of courses in our rigorous in-person program. The program faculty are committed to supporting a variety of student interests and needs, and the teaching style is student-focused and relational. Class sizes depend on the nature of the course and can range from 6 to 22. Core faculty share their syllabi and teaching resources with adjuncts, and a virtual forum for adjunct faculty is held every three to four weeks throughout each semester to provide connection with the program and teaching support.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 3 credits designated as contact time with the students.
  • Prepare lectures, projects, homework, assessments, and other student assignments that align with the course syllabus.
  • Grade all student assignments in a timely manner. Provide appropriate feedback to students to promote academic success.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours; Adjunct must be available a minimum of one additional hour per week, either in-person or virtually, to provide support to students.
  • Attend program/department meetings as requested.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the current methods and practices for teaching college-level courses; present qualified and clear instruction related to the course subject.
  • Learn and utilize technology offered at USJ to facilitate teaching.
  • Meet all designated class periods in the semester as dictated by the academic calendar.
  • Submit mid-semester and final grades to the Registrar's Office within required time-frames, leave all course records with the department chairperson upon completion of the course.
  • Provide a supportive atmosphere for student success.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in School Counseling or Clinical Mental Health Counseling or related field when teaching undergraduate courses. Degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Clinical license (LPC preferred) or School Counselor Certification.
  • Prior teaching experience strongly preferred.
  • Cultural competency to work with diverse student and/or employee population

  • Physical ability to perform essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Experience teaching in various formats (in-person, synchronous online, and asynchronous online).
