About the position

The School Bus Driver position at Natalia ISD Operations Department is responsible for the safe transportation of students, staff, and others to and from school, residential neighborhoods, and field trips. Under the general supervision of the Transportation Coordinator, the driver must ensure that all safety protocols are followed and that the bus is maintained in good working order. The position includes a sign-on bonus of $2000 for new hires who are CDL certified and pass the School Bus Driver Certification, with specific conditions regarding employment duration and previous employment with Natalia ISD.

Responsibilities

  • Safely drives a school bus on designated routes in accordance with time schedules.
  • Transports students, teachers, and others on school field or activity trips.
  • Inspects assigned bus daily to ensure it is in good, clean, and safe working order.
  • Cleans and refuels the bus as needed.
  • Ensures communication devices are in proper working order before each trip.
  • Reports mechanical deficiencies, traffic violations, or accidents promptly.
  • Arranges for and ensures completion of routine maintenance of the bus.
  • Maintains order and discipline among students in accordance with district policies.
  • Observes and tracks route timing for efficiency.
  • Maintains and submits records and reports as required.
  • Ensures no child is left alone on the bus without adult supervision.
  • Inventories bus emergency and first aid supplies and reports needs.
  • Prepares aides and children for bus drills and ensures they are held as required.
  • Evacuates children in case of accidents/emergencies according to procedures.
  • Attends and participates in trainings and professional development opportunities.

Requirements

  • Current Commercial Driver's License (CDL), class B with Passenger and School Bus endorsement.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Knowledge of all traffic laws, regulations, and road signs.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain composure under pressure and in emergencies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual, both oral and written, ability (English/Spanish) is preferred.
  • Successful prior experience working as a bus driver, preferably in a school district.
