About the position

The SBA Eligibility Review Officer III is responsible for reviewing SBA and USDA guaranteed business loans to ensure they meet eligibility requirements and are properly structured for closing. This role serves as a subject matter expert, providing guidance to sales, underwriting, and closing teams, while managing a pipeline of complex loans up to $5 million.

Responsibilities

  • Review SBA & USDA guaranteed business loans for proper structure and eligibility requirements.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in SBA servicing procedures and consult on government guaranteed loan programs.
  • Maintain an individual pipeline of work with loans of advanced complexity.
  • Assess eligibility of borrowers, co-borrowers, and guarantors to ensure enforceability of SBA guarantees.
  • Facilitate communication between internal SBA Sales and Operations colleagues regarding loan eligibility.
  • Prepare SBA Loan Authorization and other necessary forms, ensuring compliance with SBA/USDA requirements.
  • Review reports and information related to SBA/USDA eligibility to ensure credit approval terms are met.
  • Research and resolve complex servicing questions to maintain loan guarantees.
  • Advise Financial Recovery Group colleagues on working out and liquidating SBA loans.
  • Serve as the main contact for commercial loan servicing colleagues regarding SBA loan accounting and reporting.
  • Assist in training and mentoring new hires in the SBA ERO job families.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 7 years of direct SBA/USDA lending/due diligence experience or 5 years of HNB SBA/USDA lending/due diligence experience.
  • Knowledge of SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Ability to document and communicate eligibility conditions clearly.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills for documenting transaction risks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or Economics.
  • Knowledge of SBA/USDA loan programs.
  • Experience with TSoft and SBA Etran.
  • Excellent PC skills including Excel, Word, Outlook, AFS, and Velocity.
