About The Position

The Safety & Support Monitor - Elementary (SSM) position is within the Leadership Services division and reports to the Principal and District Safety & Security Director. This is a non-exempt, hourly position that works school hours for 190 days during the school year.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or state-approved High School Equivalency (HSE), required.
  • Basic knowledge of childhood growth and development.
  • Exceptional integrity, commitment to confidentiality, excellent character, and strong professional reputation.
  • Ability to abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
  • Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  • Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
  • Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Must perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to properly and consistently supervise students, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Work with other school personnel to assist students in the development of techniques to regulate and manage emotions, encourage positive student behavior, and promote safety in the school.
  • Maintain an ongoing review of the physical security of the assigned school location.
  • Assist building administrators with the continuous monitoring of the school campus.
  • Assist with the supervision of students during transitions in the hallways, meeting the expectations of school administrators.
  • Alert building administrators of any safety and security concerns throughout the school day.
  • Work cooperatively with building administrators to promote positive student behavior.
  • Assist students in examining misbehavior and developing strategies to prevent reoccurrences.
  • Coordinate, provide, and supervise instructional and behavioral activities for assigned students.
  • Attend and participate in training workshops.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all school information concerning students, staff, and school business.
  • Attend faculty meetings and other meetings as required by school administrator.
  • Demonstrate positive working relationships with the students, building administration team, building staff, and community stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
