About the position
The Safety Officer at Alaska Village Electric Cooperative (AVEC) plays a crucial role in ensuring safety and compliance while providing electricity to remote communities in Alaska. This position involves conducting safety audits, inspections, and training, as well as developing and maintaining safety programs. The Safety Officer will work closely with management and staff to promote a safe work environment and will have the opportunity to travel extensively throughout Alaska, experiencing its natural beauty while fulfilling their responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Conduct surveys, audits, and inspections to ensure a safe work environment.
- Develop, implement, maintain, and administer all safety programs for the Cooperative.
- Schedule and conduct safety committee meetings with staff and field employees.
- Assist in the investigation of accidents and provide corrective action plans.
- Oversee the distribution of safety gear and protective equipment.
- Manage the employee FR clothing allowance program.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience in conducting safety audits and inspections.
- Ability to lead and support teams in remote locations.
- Experience in developing safety programs.
- Prior experience working in a utility, particularly in remote or challenging environments.
